The PDO Sidra de Asturias Regulatory Council in collaboration with Otea Gijón and the Gijón City Council have launched the “Cider Thursdays with Denomination” initiative in the city of Gijón to attract customers to the bars and enjoy cider with a designation accompanied by a casserole
The objective of the “Cider Thursdays with Denomination” initiative is to boost the flow of customers to the Gijón cider houses registered in the project and especially to their bars, every Thursday by promoting bottles of DOP cider plus a gastronomic proposal ( casserole or similar), which each establishment chooses.
Gijón has always given great importance to cider, which is why they want to give it a boost, promoting the cider collected under the Protected Designation of Origin, and allocating one day a week, Thursdays, to offer customers the opportunity to enjoy DOP cider with a small cooking accompaniment.
The only requirement is that the preparation can be tasted at the establishment’s bar, although in exceptional cases and if the establishment allows it, it could also be done at the table.
The initiative is disseminated through the Otea website www.otea.es and www.escapaasturias.com, a section where a file for each participating establishment appears, including all the information about the establishment, the cider with its name and the tapa or casserole that offers, its price and its geolocation on Google Maps to be able to find its location easily.
